Each milestone session feels like a reunion.
As a newborn photographer in Grand Rapids, MI, few things bring me more joy than seeing my tiny clients grow. This month has been especially heartwarming as so many of my previous newborn clients, have returned for their one-year milestone sessions. It’s such a privilege to reconnect with these families, witness how their little ones have blossomed, and create new memories together.
A Special Connection Through Photography
I’ve had the honor of capturing these little ones as newborns, curled up and swaddled, and now I’m seeing their personalities shine through as they turn one. These sessions are a testament to the trust families place in me to document their journey—a responsibility I cherish deeply.
This month, we’ve celebrated first birthdays with laughter, cake smashes, and bubbly baths. Each session has been a unique reflection of the child, and the photographs we’ve created are memories I hope these families will treasure forever.
Why One-Year Sessions Are Special
The one-year milestone is such a wonderful time to capture. Babies are full of curiosity and personality, and these sessions allow me to highlight their individuality. From wide-eyed wonder to cheeky grins, the images tell the story of who they are at this moment in time.
For one-year sessions, I like to keep it simple with custom made balloon arches on neutral backdrops, and I often include props and setups used during baby’s newborn session, making each session uniquely theirs. For Baby C’s session, we incorporated charming details like soft blue and cream balloon garlands, colors found in his newborn session, and cute neutral outfits to create stunning backdrops for these milestone memories.
From Newborn to One Year: A Journey of Growth
It’s incredible to see how much these little ones have grown since their newborn sessions. I still remember photographing many of them when they were just days old—tiny fingers, sleepy smiles, and the tender love of new parents. Now, they’re on the move, exploring the world, and sharing infectious giggles.
This month has been a reminder of the beauty of these milestones and the importance of capturing them. As a Grand Rapids newborn photographer, I’m honored to provide families with keepsakes that allow them to relive these fleeting moments.
