A New Chapter: My Cozy Grand Rapids Newborn Studio

One month in, and I still can’t believe I get to call this space mine.

For years, I photographed newborns in my in-home studio—a space that was warm, familiar, and full of heart. It was where I built my business, refined my style, and captured so many beautiful first moments for families. I loved the comfort of it, but as my work evolved, I knew I needed a space that would allow me to grow even more.

So, I took the leap.

This studio is an extension of everything I love about newborn photography—cozy, intimate, and designed to capture the tiny details that mean the most. It’s a space where families can settle in, relax, and let me do what I do best: create timeless newborn portraits.

The day I received the keys!

The Search for the Perfect First Studio

Finding this space was not easy. In fact, it took over a year of searching.

I had almost signed a lease on two separate spaces—both were nice, but neither felt quite right. I kept coming back to the same feeling: if I was going to take this step, I wanted it to feel intentional. I needed a space that truly reflected my vision for Honeywild Photography, not just something that was available.

I spent months browsing listings, touring spaces, and refreshing LoopNet, a website that helps search for commercial rentals. And then, completely unexpectedly, this space popped up.

I knew right away that I had to jump on it. It checked all the right boxes—cozy, private, and a place where I could create the kind of images I love most. It felt like fate.

I don’t know if this will be the forever home of Honeywild Photography, but I do know that it’s the perfect first home. A space where I can grow, refine my craft, and create timeless newborn portraits for families who trust me to capture their most precious memories.

The first time I saw the space, and instantly felt the cozy vibe, exactly what I was looking for in a space. I couldn’t wait to make it my own!

From a Blank Space to a Cozy Studio: The Transformation

Moving into a new studio meant starting fresh. The space didn’t come ready-made for newborn photography—I had to make it my own. Every piece, from the furniture to the lighting, was chosen with intention to create a warm, inviting space where both babies and parents feel comfortable.

The studio before I got my hands on it! and the final results!

Unlike my home studio, which had natural light filtering in (that I had to block out for every session), this space is intentionally darker and cozier—perfect for the way I love to shoot. I lean into warm shadows and rich textures to create depth and emotion in every image. This space allows me to fully embrace that, making each newborn session feel even more intimate.

Intentional Design: Creating a Space That Feels Like Home

Vision board for what I hoped the family seating area would look like.

I knew from the start that I wanted this studio to feel comfortable, inviting, and personal. Every piece in this space was chosen for a reason, from the seating area to the tiniest props. Some of my favorite parts of my new studio space are:

The Couch: A Quiet Tribute to Rainbow Babies

One of my favorite pieces in the studio is the couch—a simple but meaningful addition. Its soft, warm tones are a subtle nod to all of the rainbow babies I’ve had the honor of photographing over the years. Representing hope, healing, and love—something that resonates deeply with many of the families who walk through my doors.

The Snack & Coffee Bar: Because Parents Deserve a Break

If you’ve ever experienced a newborn session, you know they can take time—sometimes up to three hours. Babies need to be fed, rocked, and soothed, and I want parents to feel just as relaxed as their little ones.

That’s why I set up a snack and coffee bar stocked with refreshments. Whether you need a quick snack, a bottle of water, or a fresh cup of coffee, it’s all here. I want this space to be a place where you can sit back, unwind, and enjoy the experience without worrying about anything else.

My kiddos love visiting the studio for the hot cocoa 😂

First Session in the New Studio

Just a few days after setting up, I welcomed my first newborn into the space. There’s something about a first session that feels extra special—almost like breaking in a new home.

I remember watching the baby settle in, the soft hum of a white noise machine filling the room, and realizing how right this space felt. The deeper shadows, the rich warmth, the way the textures stood out—it all worked exactly the way I envisioned.

This is why I moved. This is why I needed a space dedicated entirely to my craft. I can’t wait to welcome you into this cozy space.
