Picking a Grand Rapids newborn photographer feels like a small item on the baby to-do list until you really think about it. This is the person who will hold your brand new baby and make the photos you’ll look at for the rest of your life. So yeah, it’s kind of a big one.

At Honeywild Photography, newborn photos in Grand Rapids are my whole focus. I’ve photographed hundreds of babies, 70 so far this year alone, and my studio is set up to make your session as easy and calm as possible

When should I book my newborn photos in Grand Rapids?

While you’re still pregnant. Anytime after the first trimester is perfect. Newborn sessions are booked by due date, so the earlier you reach out, the better your chances of getting a spot.

Booking is simple. A signed contract and a $50 retainer save your due date on my calendar. You’ll get a welcome email right away, and a little welcome package in the mail with a session timeline, a prep checklist, and goodies from some of my favorite local spots. Once baby arrives, just send me a message and we’ll pick your session date together.

Newborn sessions happen between 7 and 21 days after birth. Already had your baby? Reach out anyway. I’ll always do my best to find a spot for you.

What’s included in a newborn session?

I offer three newborn packages so you can choose what fits your family:

  • Micro Newborn Session: 5 images, baby focused
  • Petite Newborn Session: 15 images, plus one family or sibling setup
  • Classic Newborn Session: 20 images, with complete family posing

No matter which package you choose, every session includes:

  • Access to my fully stocked studio, with wraps, props, and setups ready to go
  • A proof gallery within a week of your session so you can pick your favorites, with the option to add extra images
  • High resolution, professional, hand edited digital images with a print release, ready for your walls
  • Snacks, drinks, and a comfy place to sit while I work with baby

How long does a newborn session last?

Plan for a slow, easy morning. Your baby sets the pace, so we stop for feedings, diaper changes, and cuddles whenever they’re needed. Nobody is rushing anybody.

While I’m working with baby, you get to sit, eat a snack, and actually relax. You just had a baby. You deserve to be taken care of too.

What should parents/or siblings wear?

Stick with neutrals and soft, earthy tones. They match the warm look of my galleries and won’t compete with baby’s setup. Skip logos, bright colors, and busy patterns.

Family images are taken from the waist up and kept focused on baby, so they feel close and personal. That means you don’t need to stress about a full head to toe outfit. Wear something you feel good in.

Is newborn photography safe?

Absolutely. Your baby’s safety comes first at every single session. I use safe newborn posing techniques, I never force a pose, and every setup is guided by what your baby is comfortable with. If baby isn’t loving a position, we move on. There’s always another setup, and no photo is worth an unhappy baby.

I keep the studio warm and cozy, since newborns are most comfortable (and sleepiest) when they’re toasty. Everything that touches your baby, from wraps to blankets to layers, is washed between sessions, and you’re welcome to be as close as you want the whole time. Sit right next to me, take a breather on the couch, or step in whenever baby needs you.

That’s also why newborn sessions happen in the first few weeks. Babies are sleepier and naturally curled up during that window, so posing is gentle and easy for them, and they’re much more likely to snooze right through it.

What if my baby is fussy?

This is the number one worry I hear, and I get it. The good news is that fussy babies are completely normal, and I’ve seen it all. If baby needs a break, we take a break. If a pose isn’t working, I move on to a different setup. Patience is the thing my clients mention most in their reviews, and I take that seriously.

Frequently asked questions

What if my baby comes early?
No problem at all. Your spot is based on your due date, so we just adjust once baby arrives.

What do I need to bring to my Grand Rapids newborn session?
Baby, a pacifier if you use one, extra diapers, and anything you need for feeding. I’ll handle the rest.

Can I request certain colors?
Yes. We collaborate to create a beautiful gallery full of images that you will cherish forever. Let me know if you have colors in mind and I’ll plan setups to match.

When will I get my photos?
Your proof gallery arrives within a week of your session. Final edited images are delivered in 2 to 4 weeks, or 3 to 5 weeks during busy season.

Where is your studio?
My studio is at 2020 Nelson Ave in Grand Rapids, and I work with families from all over West Michigan.

Do you offer maternity and milestone sessions?
I do. I offer studio and outdoor maternity sessions, milestone portraits like first birthdays, and family sessions from May through October.
